Leander V. Blair

Leander V. Blair was born March 8, 1840 in Brown County, Ohio, son of Samuel McConaughy and Mary Blair. He was 6 ft. tall, light complexion, gray eyes and light hair. He is listed in the 1860 U.S. Census for Brown County, OH, as a farmer.

He enlisted as a private in Company I, 48th Ohio Volunteer Infantry Reg on January 10, 1862, at Brown County, OH. On April 6, 1862, at Shiloh, while on a detail getting logs to build rifle pits, he received a severe hernia. He was at the siege of Corinth. He was later sent to the General Hospital at Ft. Pickering, Memphis, TN. He was transferred to Company H, 14th Reg, Veteran Reserve Corps, April 5, 1864 at St. Louis, MO. He was honorably discharged at Washington DC, on January 10, 1865.

He married Martha Lorella McGohan on February 26, 1867, at Hamersville, Brown, OH.

He died on April 29, 1918 at Clarinda, Page, IA and is buried there. His obituary states he was a miller by trade.
