Military: Civil War - Co B, 48th Ohio Vol. Inf./ Signal Corps.  Enlisted 19 Sept 1861 Delaware OH.  Three year enlistment.  Transfer to Signal Corp Aug 1863 by order of U.S. Grant.  In battle at Shiloh, Holley Spring, Vicksburg, Arkansas Post, Magnolia Hills, Vicksburg, Jackson, New Orleans.  Discharged 19 Sep 1864 - expiration of Term of Service. 

Description: Military records - age 19, 5'9 3/4", light complexion, hazel eyes, brown hair.  born Germany, occupation - farmer

Signal Corps   Pvt.  promoted 12/11/62  Corp.  Battles:  Shiloh, Tenn.,  April 6-7, 1862;  Corinth, Miss., October 3-4, 1862.;  Chickasaw Bayou, Miss.,  December 28-29, 1862;  Arkansas Post, Ark.,  January 11, 1863;  Port Gibson, Miss., May 1, 1863;  Jackson, Miss., May 14, 1863;  Champion Hills, Miss.,  May 16, 1863;  Big Black River, Miss.,  May 17, 1863;  Vicksburg, Miss. (Siege Of)  May 18 to July 4, 1863;  Carrion Crow Bayou, La.,   November 3, 1863.

Disability - 3/4 loss of vision. due to exposure to cold at Miliken's Bend, LA 1863.
